Pizza Recipe

Although this is not a dish originating from Nigeria, but it is fast becoming common in the country.
Buying Pizza from a restaurant can seem like an inexpensive dinner choice, but you will save big if you learn how to make them on your own.

And if making homemade pizza sounds like a lot of  trouble, i'm going to share my simple method and you don't really need any fancy ingredients or equipment. i usually prepare the dough ahead and freeze so that i can easily make fresh  pizza whenever i like.
Note: you need to start this recipe about a day before you want to bake your pizza.

Ingredients:
Step 1. To make the dough you'll need;

  • 1 1/4 cups of flour
  • 3/4 cup of water
  • 1/4 teaspoon instant dry yeast
In a medium bowl, mix all the above listed ingredients together until well-blended, Cover it for about 12 to 18 hours at room temperature

Step 2. For the crust you'll need;
  • 3 1/2 cups of flour
  • 3/4 cup whole wheat flour (or extra flour)
  • 1 3/4 cup of hot water (preferable at 140 deg. F)
  • 1/2 tsp. instant dry yeast
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 3 tsp extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1/2 tsp. honey
Step 3. For the sauce you'll need;
  • 2 cups of tomato puree or 1 15-ounce of canned tomato
  • 3 cloves of fresh garlic, minced
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp pepper
You may also want to garnish it with extra toppings like cheese,  sliced plum tomatoes, thin sliced potatoes, sliced pieces of chicken or beef...etc as desired

Procedure 1; (At this point you should first of all turn on your oven to preheat to about 550 degrees F)
  • In a large bowl, using your hands or blender, mix the flours, hot water, yeast and salt until it becomes thick and sticky like dough.
  • Let the dough sit for about 30 minutes
  • Add the extra-virgin olive oil to the dough together with the first mixture you set aside in Step 1, and mix by hand or blender until incorporated
  • Divide the dough into two or more pieces as required
  • Sprinkle some flour on a light smooth surface and kneed one part of the dough for 5 minutes, expanding it to give it a round and flat figure and set aside
  • Mix your tomato puree, garlic, salt and  pepper in a bowl and spread on the knead dough as shown in the  picture below

  • Add your extra toppings as desired
  • Open your oven (already preheated to about 550 degrees F) and place your pizza stone on the oven rack.
  • Transfer the kneaded dough into the oven placing it on the pizza stone and allow to bake for about 10 -15 minutes, always check on it while baking.
  • When you are sure its done, remove from oven
  • You may want to let it cool down a little bit, then cut into triangles and serve
